With Foil-Mesh Laminates
Despite years of challenges from ceramics, plastics, MIM and other styles of orthodontic brackets, traditional stainless steel brackets brazed to base pads made from MKIs diffusion-bonded Dynapore® Foil-Mesh direct-bond materials remain the most popular and reliable mainstay of orthodontic practitioners worldwide.
For over fifteen years, MKI has supplied high-quality laminate materials to manufacturers of direct-bond stainless steel orthodontic appliances. Starting with the highest quality AISI type 316L stainless steel woven wire meshes and rolled foils, MKI produces a variety of foil and mesh laminates for the orthodontic industry. Our processing capabilities include all the necessary calendering (rolling), sintering, cleaning, and trimming, shearing, or slitting to suit your requirements. Our primary focus is on the quality of the laminating process itself, designed to yield materials with zero delamination.
Standard Laminate Part Numbers
To specify orthodontic laminates, please order as follows:
Mesh is oriented with wires parallel to the edges of the sheet or strips. For a 45° diagonal orientation, indicate a suffix "D" on the mesh code. Example: 60D, 80LD.
Foil Codes [F] are simply the thickness of the foil in thousandths of an inch, without the decimal point: use 006 for .006" thick foil, etc. Foils are available from .002" to .018" thickness, but most laminates are made with foils in the range of .004" to .007" thick.
Option Codes [O] are as follows:
To calculate the approximate thickness of the finished laminate, add the foil thickness to the thickness factor shown above for the specified mesh. Laminates are rolled to appropriate thickness specifications and tolerances unless otherwise specified by user. Note: the FM prefix on the part number replaces our previous OMF prefix; but there is no change in the actual material.
When ordering sheets, specify the quantity required. For strips, specify the total square footage. (We will advise the strip yield upon request.) For example, an order of 100 square feet of our part number OMF-100LD-006-P-500 would yield (1200) strips ½"x24", of 100x.0035 mesh on a 45° bias, bonded to .006" thick foil. Finished thickness approximately .011". Larger sheet sizes such as 12x24" are available on special order.
