MPP™
"Micro-Perforated Plate"

- The Low Cost Alternative to Expensive
Photo-Etched Media
- Uniform square holes in a square perforation pattern
- Smooth surface finish with no sharp edges or burrs
- Wide variety of holes down to .001" aperture (25 microns)
The Perfect Alternative to
Expensive Photo-Etched Media
MPP or "Micro-Perf" is a useful
part of the Dynapore® family of microporous stainless steel
materials. This series of materials is produced by super-calendering and
diffusion-bonding woven wire meshes. Calendaring and sintering imparts
strength, a smooth surface finish, and permanent unchangeable pore size.
The result is a transformation of foraminate (woven) media into sheets
resembling perforate materials. However, MPP offers a range of hole sizes
unachievable by conventional perforation, at a cost substantially lower
than photo-etched media. The section photomicrograph above indicates a
flow path perpendicular to the planar surface with "nozzle-like"
entrace and exit.
- Wire Mesh

Wire Mesh can achieve the required basic pore
size & density "as woven," but is subject to fraying
wires and aperture enlargement under pressure. It lacks strength,
a smooth surface and a permanent, unchangeable pore size. The section
photomicrograph indicates a non-perpendicular flow path.
|
- Photo-Etched Media
Photo-Etched Media offers strength, uniform pore
size & a smooth finish. However, it may be a very costly solution.
Moreover, photo-etched media may not be available in the same sheet
sizes, aperture sizes & densities, and alloys as Micro-Perforated
Plate. Note the reduced hole cross-section depicted in the
photomicrograph.

The table below gives the geometric characteristics of various grades
of MPP™. Remember that the thinner MPP™ materials can be diffusion-bonded
to other substrates such as coarser MPP™, wire mesh or perforated plates
for enhanced mechanical strength. MPP is available in flat sheets in 304L
and 316L stainless steels. Other materials are available on special order.
